Plans for wind turbines at Denzell Downs to go on display

Plans to install wind turbines near St Eval are to be presented to the public at an exhibition organised by renewable energy company, Cornwall Light & Power. The project is proposed for land at Denzell Downs, which is adjacent to the existing wind farm at Bears Down.

The exhibition will be held at St Mawgan Village Hall on Friday 11th (2pm-8pm) and Saturday 12th December (10am-2pm). Visitors will have a chance to find out about outline plans for the site and comment on the scale of scheme they would like to see.

Electricity generated by the turbines would go into the local distribution network, and based on one possible layout could be sufficient to power over 5,500 households in the surrounding communities each year.1

Simon Pipkin, Project Developer at Cornwall Light & Power, said: "Our proposals for Denzell Downs give the local community an opportunity to benefit from further clean electricity, in addition to that which is already generated by the Bears Down turbines.

"The purpose of the exhibition is to engage with people living near the site - to explain the process we have gone through in confirming Denzell Downs is suitable, and to hear people's views to help shape our eventual planning application. At this stage, nothing is fixed and we welcome the views of residents in helping us develop a renewable energy scheme that people are comfortable with.

"As a Cornish company that already operates two successful schemes at Goonhilly Downs on the Lizard and Roskrow Barton near Penryn, we are committed to working in partnership with the local community on this project."2

Cornwall prides itself on being England's green peninsula and is world renowned for its renewable power and pioneering the wind industry with some of the first commercial wind farms. It is an industry which directly employs over 7,000 people and is thought to be worth half a billion pounds to the regional economy, according to a report from Regen South West.
